An Analysis of Omission Errors in the Academic Research Papers of Students at Institute Muslim Cendekia Sukabumi تحليل أخطاء الحذف في البحوث العلمية لطلبة جامعة الراية سوكابومي

Abstract
This study aims to identify, classify, analyze, and interpret omission errors in the academic writing of students in the Arabic Language Education Department at Institut MuslimCcendekia (IMC), Sukabumi. The study employed a qualitative approach and a descriptive-analytical method. Data were collected through documentary analysis of 13 undergraduate research papers selected from a population of 138 papers submitted by students in the 2020 academic year. The data were analyzed using Error Analysis based on Corder’s stages of identification, description, and interpretation. The findings show that omission errors occurred at three main linguistic levels: syntactic and structural, morphological, and orthographic. The main syntactic errors included the omission of the response particle fa, the subordinating particle an, prepositions, and the definite article al-. Morphological errors involved the omission of vowel letters in verbs and defective nouns. Orthographic errors included the omission of dots, the differentiating alif, the connecting hamza, the second lam in the definite article al-, and the alif used with accusative tanwin. The findings indicate that these errors cannot be attributed to a single factor; rather, they are related to linguistic interaction between Arabic and Indonesian, incomplete mastery of some Arabic rules, and learners’ tendency to simplify language during writing. The significance of this study lies in its specific focus on omission errors as an independent category in academic writing, providing a clearer understanding of students’ difficulties and offering implications for improving the teaching of Arabic grammar, morphology, and orthography.
